How Do I Remove the Glue-on horseshoe from the Hoof Again?
Updated on 10/13/2026
In short
The tabs are carefully opened at the tip with blunt hoof nippers or a comparable tool and pulled off piece by piece, and jerky tearing off should be avoided. A thin layer of glue deliberately remains on the hoof and is removed during the next hoof trimming.

The glue-on horseshoe is removed in a controlled way and without force, using suitable tools. The process is usually as follows:
- The tabs are carefully opened at the tip with blunt hoof pincers or a comparable tool and pulled off piece by piece.
- A thin layer of glue is deliberately left on the hoof and protects the horn as the tabs are removed.
- Remaining glue residue is removed during normal hoof trimming. Before a new application, the hoof is roughened anyway – the remaining residue disappears automatically in the process.
Jerky or forceful pulling must always be avoided so as not to damage the hoof horn.
