Dr. Kerstin Wichelhaus – Use of glue-on shoeing in orthopaedics
Case report from the veterinary practice of Dr. Kerstin Wichelhaus
"The patient "Paul" is a Holsteiner gelding, 17 years old. Along with several other issues, he has arthrosis in the lateral area of the coffin joint and some in the pastern joint (see X-rays, affected area circled).
Before being fitted with Goodsmith hoof protection, "Paul" was unable to walk soundly either barefoot or with shoes (with or without pads).
For a year now, he has been walking reliably with Goodsmith.
The base plate sometimes lasts through three trimming cycles, each cycle easily 7 weeks.
It is a great example of success with your products!"
About Dr. Kerstin Wichelhaus and her use of Goodsmith products
"As a veterinarian who offers extensive laminitis care, hoof canker treatment, orthopaedics and physiotherapy for horses, I enthusiastically use nearly all products from Goodsmith regularly across all these areas.
I fit hoof boots, and I am convinced time and again by how well horses move when the hoof boots fit precisely.
Even when things get more difficult or something doesn't work right away, Goodsmith is there to help, advise, and together we find a solution.
I use the hoof glue-on products in the sport and rehabilitation sectors as well as in medical applications. Since I can remove and reapply the glue-ons as often as needed, even at short intervals, my patients can often begin their first movement exercises very quickly. This would frequently not yet be possible with hoof bandages.
Horses with hoof abscesses and hoof canker can thus be offered early mobility, which benefits both hoof health and mental
balance." - Veterinarian Kerstin Wichelhaus.
