We introduce the people whose hands bring our system to the horse. Janina lives with her animals in Göttingen and works as a hoof care professional, using Goodsmith every day. Here she tells her own story of how she came to the hoof.
My path to the hoof
Hi, my name is Janina, and I live with my animals in Göttingen. I got into hoof care about nine years ago, when I bought my gelding, who is now eleven. He has somewhat complicated hooves — and since it's not always easy to find someone to do the hoof work anyway, it quickly became clear that I would have to learn it myself. Hooves had always interested me, so I sat down, did a few weekend courses, and that's how it began.
From curiosity to training
Over the years, fellow boarders at the stable increasingly asked me: "Hey Janina, you know a bit about this — can't you take a look here, can't you help out there?" So three years ago, I decided to formally train as a hoof care professional.
How I came to Goodsmith
During my training I came across Goodsmith fairly early on and thought it was just great: for me as a hoof care professional, it's a way to apply a permanent hoof protection that is a solid alternative to conventional shoeing. Afterwards I did the further training at Goodsmith for the hoof boot and glue-on.
How I work
These days I really do use Goodsmith every single day — both on horses in rehabilitation, for example laminitis patients in combination with a pad, and on horses that don't quite manage barefoot.
What matters to me
I think that Goodsmith with glue-on is simply a great alternative to conventional shoeing. I'm curious to see where this will develop over the coming years — and I'm glad to be part of the team and to be able to help shape it.
